Now that we’ve got our wardrobes cleaned out and detoxed, it’s time to fill in those gaps! To make sure this is going to be your best and most stylish season so far, I’m sharing a couple of shopping tips and tricks that will help building the perfect wardrobe. All right, it might not become perfect just like that (one always needs to have something to crave for, right?), but it will get you at least 5 steps closer to a dreamy personal collection.
Pay attention to fabrics
One of the most important things to check before actually buying something is which material it is made of. If possible, always opt for natural fabrics such as linen, cotton, cashmere and silk. These have a better quality and will last longer. It doesn’t have to be expensive, Zara and H&M for example have really nice premium quality collections. Although most people wouldn’t immediately think of it, (cool) wool is great for spring/summer, too.
Set a budget
So this one might seem a bit weird, but I always make the best choices when I set a budget before I’m going shopping. It helps you think of what you really need, and it prevents buying stuff that will end up as shelf decoration.
The rule of three
In doubt about something you spotted? Try to come up with at least three different ways to wear it. Would it go with a casual lunch outfit, a smart dinner and a bid night out with the girls, heel and your best false eyelashes? If that’s an easy task, go for it. If you’re not sure how to wear it, you might want to wait a little longer and leave it for now. Probably not the easiest thing to do, but you’ll thank yourself for it in the end, trust me.
Oh, there you have it again: lists! I’m sorry guys, I know I talk about lists all the freaking time, but the truth is, they can be super helpful. Simply make a list before going shopping (preferably a week or so beforehand, so you’ll have enough time to think it through) and stick to it. Another way to prevent going bananas and recklessly throwing everything in your shopping basket.
Invest in classics
A couple of well-picked classic items will upgrade any wardrobe. Suddenly you’ve always got something to wear! Classic styles like a leather biker jacket, a striped sweater, a trench coat or a pair of black heels are no-brainers that will work with everything. When shopping for classics, make sure to go for quality items that will last years.
Stay true to yourself
Trends can be really nice, but obviously you don’t have to follow every single one. It’s more important to stick to your own style and stay true to yourself. Only then you’ll be able to create a wardrobe that you’re perfectly happy with. That’s not to say that you can’t experiment a bit though! Fashion should be fun, so go ahead and try out new things every now and then. Just don’t forget: style trumps fashion. Not sure yet what your personal style exactly is? I’ve got you covered.
