Keto diets have really been strong in the last year and a half and for good reason. It is a great way to lose those unwanted pounds quickly but also an excellent way to stay healthy and stay that way. For those who have tried the Keto Diet and are still in it, it is more than a diet. It is a healthy lifestyle and not some crash diet. However, as we need to adapt as per changing circumstances, which is not always easy it requires an incredible amount of determination and commitment.
Good for some, but not for everyone; although a ketogenic diet has been used to greatly improve the quality of life of people, there are some who do not share the way of thinking of the majority. However, why is that exactly? Since we have a notion that the only way to get rid of extra weight is to stop eating the foods that contain fat and we are so used to eating every day. Therefore, instructing people to consume healthy fats (the keyword is Healthy) can certainly understand why some people are sceptical about how and why they would eat more fat to achieve weight loss and achieve it quickly. This concept goes against everything we have known about weight loss.
How Keto began – Discovered by the endocrinologist Rollin Woodyatt in 1921 when he discovered that the liver produced 3 water-soluble compounds, B-hydroxybutyrate, and acetoacetate (known as ketone bodies) as a result of starvation or if the person was still high in carbohydrate diet. High in fat and very low carbs; later that year, a man from the Mayo Clinic whose name was Russell Wilder called it “Ketogenic Diet” and administered for treating epilepsy in infants, toddlers, and teenagers with considerable success. However, there was a replacement due to advances in medicine.
My struggles to start with Keto: I started with Keto on February 28, 2018, I had tried the Keto diet supplements once about 6 months before, but I could never finish the first week. The difficult part of the keto diet is enduring the first week; in this phase, you have to deal with the carb flu or keto flu. It is a natural reaction, which your body experiences when switching over from glucose (sugar) to metabolizing fat instead. People who had success with a Keto diet professes that the feeling is something like a withdrawal symptom from an addictive substance. This can last from 3 days to a whole week; it only lasted a few days in my case.
People who have had the flu keto report feeling sleepy, sore, nauseous, and dizzy and suffer migraines among several side effects. The first week is usually when people who try a Keto protein shake tends to quit; just remember that this happens to everyone at the beginning of the process and if you can overcome the starting week, the hardest part is over; there are some remedies you can use to help you overcome this approximate spell. Take electrolyte supplements, stay hydrated, drink the broth from bones, eat more meat and get enough sleep. One of the unavoidable yet unfortunate parts of the process is keto flu. It happens to everyone when you deprive the body with which it is familiar. You need to see of this phase.
How do you see a ketogenic diet? – When an average person ingests a meal rich in carbohydrates, their body takes those carbohydrates and converts them into glucose as fuel. Glucose is the body’s main source of fuel when carbohydrates are present in the body. In a Keto protein powder, the amount of carbohydrates is very low, forcing the body to use other forms of energy for the body to function properly. At this point, the body starts utilizing the fat reserves, due to the absence of carbohydrates, the liver consumes fatty acids and transforms them into ketone bodies.
The proportion of nutrients in a keto diet is ideally
- 10 percent carb
- 20 percent protein
- 70 percent fat
Your daily intake of carbs must not exceed 20 g to maintain the typical ketogenic diet. Personally, I consumed around 10g a day to see the results fast, and the outcomes were more than impressive. I shed 28 pounds in a span of 3 weeks.
What is ketosis? – When the body is completely fat-fed, it enters a state called “Ketosis”, which is a natural state for the body. After you remove all the sugars and unhealthy fats from the body during the first week, the body is now thriving through the consumption of healthy fats. Ketosis renders several health benefits when it comes to losing weight, improving health and performance. In special medical conditions like type 1 diabetes, extreme ketosis may cause health hazards, since, in definite cases, pairing with intermittent fasting can be extremely beneficial
