There is no denying the fact that COVID 19 has turned the tables and the whole society has suffered. While Covid-19 has shaken much of human society, the threat posed by global warming has not gone away.
When it comes to climate change news, various human activities have already increased carbon dioxide emissions which as a result is driving up temperatures. Some of the possible effects are melting polar ice and weather conditions
What is climate change?
If you listen to climate change news, professionals have said that the average temperature of Earth has been higher and lower in the past. Even though there are natural fluctuations in the weather, professionals have told us that the temperature is rising at present. The rise has never been increased to this level previously. This is one major reason which is why the experts link it to the greenhouse effect. Now this elaborates the atmosphere of the Earth which is at times trapped by the energy of the Sun. The solar energy which has been radiated back to space from the surface of the Earth is absorbed from the greenhouse gases and re-emitted in all directions. Now, this is what heats both the surface of the planet and the lower atmosphere. There is no denying the fact that the earth would be about 30C colder and hostile to life, said an expert during the climate change protest.
The greenhouse effect
The greenhouse gas with the greatest impact on warming is water vapor. But it remains in the atmosphere for some days only. Nevertheless, Carbon dioxide (CO2) stays for a longer period of time. According to the research, it would take hundreds of years for a return to pre-industrial levels, and only so much can be soaked up by natural reservoirs such as the oceans.
Climate change: The report by the professionals from the climate change organization explains that since the Industrial Revolution began in about 1750, there has been an increase in CO2 more than thirty percent. The concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is higher than at any time in at least 800,000 years. Other gases like nitrous oxide and are also released and the reason behind the same is human activities. However, they are less abundant than carbon dioxide.
How much will temperatures rise in the future?
The change in the global surface temperature between 1850 and the end of the 21st Century is most probably to exceed 1.5C, say the professionals. They also say that if the present warming trend still goes on, there will be a rise in the temperature by 3-5C by the end of this century. Temperature rises of 2C had long been regarded as the gateway to dangerous warming. More recently, scientists and policymakers have argued that limiting temperature rises to 1.5C is safer.
